A Safe Natural Treatment
• • •
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if there were a treatment for sickle cell
disease which was safe, natural, and effective? There is!
Our treatments are based on strong evidence that for hundreds of generations
sickle cell anemia was quite rare. Very few people got the disease
because natural substances in the foods of our ancestors prevented the
sickling of blood cells.
Now science has discovered what those substances are. By making
sure that we get plenty of these from the right food and from supplements,
we can eliminate some of the worst symptoms of the disease.
The work of the Clara Felix Sickle Cell Clinic is based on the nutritional
medicine, or ‘orthomolecular’ approach. This describes
the practice of preventing and treating disease by providing the body
with optimal amounts of substances that are natural to the body.
It includes using substances that are safe, non-toxic, and often available
in the foods we eat.
It also includes using other medical approaches which have been used in
traditional societies, such as acupuncture, massage and food therapies,
or have a low risk of toxicity, such as heat and light therapy.
Working with Your Doctor
The services we offer at the Clara Felix Family Sickle Cell Clinic complement
the work you do with your doctor.
Nutritional supplements, acupuncture, bodywork, heat treatments, and herbal
medicine all support your health and the treatments and medicines your
doctor gives you. We will be happy to speak with your doctor about
how our program works.
Treatments We Use
• • •
Nutritional Supplements
supply specific nutrients needed by the body when we have sickle cell
disease, and nutrients which support overall health.
Acupuncture
is an ancient practice in which very fine needles are inserted into the
skin to relieve pain and treat disease.
The great Chinese doctors who developed this wonderful medicine dicovered
that acupuncture increases vitality and improves blood circulation. This
increases the flow of healing and pain-killing natural chemicals.
Bodywork
Volunteers at the clinic provide massage and chiropractic. Massage
is often given with acupuncture.
Nutritional Counseling
Learning to eat right is a critical part of recovery
in the natural approach to sickle cell treatment.
Heat Treatments
soothe sore muscles, and provide relaxation. They
serve as a support to acupuncture and massage treatments.
